Waikawa Dive Centre offers you professional dive training in a relaxed style. We also do eco dive trips within Queen Charlotte Sound and wreck dives, including the Mikhail Lermontov cruise ship wreck in Port Gore, in the outer Marlborough Sounds region.
We have a full retail shop and hire dive gear. Our water temps are about 13-18 degrees Celsius so a wetsuit is required. Our hire suits are warm, 7 mm two piece quality suits.
There is plenty to see in Queen Charlotte Sound, with a coastline of more than 40 km, and many little bays on either side. Pulling into a bay you will hear native birdsong, and there are often Little Blue penguins, dolphins, seals, and seabirds to see on the way out. Lucky students have also seen Orca while dive training.
Oh, and by the way, snorkellers and non-diving companions are welcome too.
Book a snorkel or dive trip if you are visiting Picton on a cruise ship, and we will pick you up and drop you back.
NB: Trips are subject to minimum numbers and need to be pre-booked to ensure staff availability. If minimum trip numbers have already been reached it might be possible to join a trip close to the scheduled time, but to avoid disappointment it pays to book yourself or your group in early.
Terms and conditions apply and are found here.
NB: Marine weather is different from terrestrial weather. Diving can be good even if it’s rainy and sometimes the sea-state can be a little rough despite it being a sunny day.
We're in Waikawa Marina, Picton (see map & events page). Picton is in the Marlborough Sounds, at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Our trips can depart from any location in Queen Charlotte Sound by arrangement.
